Memorial and funeral tunes can vary depending on the desired atmosphere you're looking to achieve.
Few instruments can match the powerful reverence and soul of the bagpipes, so it's no surprise that pipes continue to be a common tradition at Celebrations of Life, Memorials, Calling Hours and Funeral Services.
It truly is a humbling and profound experience!
Piper Jack always strives to make the process as simple and straightforward as possible, so more time can be spent with your friends and family instead of planning the logistics of the service.
If you know the type of mood you're looking to set, Piper Jack can offer recommendations on the music selection to match.
Funeral and graveside services tend to feature slower, more reverent tunes like Amazing Grace. Going Home, Bells of Dunblane, etc.
Memorial Services, Irish Wakes, and Celebrations of Life can include a mixture of slow and upbeat tunes.
If the service takes place outside, one common request is to have the bagpiper play as the hearse and guests arrive onsite. Continue playing while all the family exits their vehicles.
Once Funeral Director is ready, Bagpiper can lead casket to the graveside and continue playing until all the family and friends are gathered around casket and clergy is ready to begin service.
After Priest/Minister finishes the final prayer. (Excluding Military Honors), Bagpiper will begin playing Amazing Grace.
As flowers are being placed on the casket and friends and family are all saying their “Goodbyes”, Going Home is a very appropriate song to play as the bagpiper slowly walks away from the graveside.
Once away from the gravesite, bagpipes will turn and continue playing until family is finished saying their final "Farewells" to their Loved One!
Memorials, Wakes, and Celebrations of Life can differ from
Church and Graveside Funeral Services,
as the music can range from traditional, reverent tunes, such as:
Amazing Grace, Going Home, Simple Gifts, etc.,
To more uplifting and lively tunes, such as:
The Minstrel Boy, Green Hills of Tyrol, Scotland the Brave, etc.
Similar to Funerals, the most commonly requested time for the piper to play is:
A. As guests arrive.
B. Selected time(s) during the service.
C. At the conclusion of the service.
In addition to private memorials, Piper Jack also has experience performing at Memorial Day Events, 9/11 Remembrances across CNY, Cancer and Alzheimer Benefits, Police and Fire Dept. Services, etc.
[...] You did a beautiful job bagpiping at my Mother's Funeral Service! Everyone loved your music selection at both the Church and Cemetery.
I cannot begin to tell you how moved my entire family was at how you ended Mom’s graveside service by bringing us all together and playing those two special songs for us!
We all thought you were absolutely wonderful and would definitely contact you again in the future [...]
I would highly recommend you to all of my friends!!
